After a particularly cold and chilly August, I suggested to a friend living in LA we meet up for a weekend in Palm Springs. (When you’ve lived in San Francisco for a while, you begin to get strategic about planning escapes to hot weather!)

To my joy, my friend said yes — then suggested we skip staying in Palm Springs proper and head to a place she loved in nearby Desert Hot Springs, a little resort enclave boasting hot mineral waters known as Two Bunch Palms. Hot mineral waters? Spa treatments? Hot desert sunshine? In!

Spa Life is my new ongoing series where I will review one of my favorite things, spas!

Last summer I had the opportunity to make my first visit to Calistoga’s Indian Springs resort. For the uninitiated, Indian Springs Calistoga is in the north part of Napa Valley, built on natural hot springs that fill two large pools with warm mineral water. I had heard about it for many years, and when a friend wanted to visit over the July 4th weekend, it was the perfect excuse to book a room for two nights and head up to experience it firsthand.
